Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s is stressful, painful, and expensive. Make sure you recognize the warning signs and obtain valid legal signatures before it is too late.

My wife’s father served in the Navy. He was proud, handsome, and quirky. After his tour of duty, he married, settled down, started a family. He knew only one way to provide for his family, selling commercial real estate. And he did so until he was no longer able to.

I remember one day sitting in a restaurant with him and my family. His wife recently passed away. The music was pleasant but made conversation difficult. He was getting extremely agitated, and we had to leave. Once outside, he quickly settled down.

On the way back to the car he turned to me and with a smile said, “I know I am getting more irritable. That’s age, nothing I can do about it. But I still have a purpose. I hope I live long enough to see it through.”

Six months later he was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. 3 years later he passed.

This is why Alzheimer’s means so much to my wife. She made sure our Estate Plan honors his legacy.
